Wolfson audio chips wins Samsung Android phone
Wolfson Microelectronics announce high quality audio chip deal with South Korean Samsung for their Google Android based phone.
It’s unusual in the secretive world of electronic device design to find out when deals are done – but good news is hard to keep a lid on sometimes and Edinburgh based Wolfson Microelectronics have announced a deal (14/6/2010) with Samsung to supply their audio chips to the South Korean giant - http://wolfsonmicro.com/news/396 .
The need for high quality audio on mobile phones is the driver behind the deal – with more users using their phone as their portable audio player the desire for improved audio quality has risen. The chip will feature in the Samsung Wave mobile phone and also in the Google Android based Galaxy S phone.
Wolfson will no doubt be delighted to announce the good news, often stories tend to be reported when a deal comes to an end rather when a contract is signed due to the understandable commercial sensitivities that surround new opportunities. According to recent releases from the company the announcement comes at a point where deal flow is improving.
